3. Weed carefully
The metallic top layer is fragile. Use a weeding hook with a fine point and pull excess vinyl back at a sharp angle, not straight up. For tiny counters in letters like 'a', 'e', and 'o', use a piece of low-tack transfer tape to lift them out. 4. Position and press
Place the design on the pre-pressed garment, carrier side up. Cover with a Teflon sheet or parchment. Press at the temperature, time, and pressure on your spec sheet — typically 275°F for 10 seconds at medium pressure. Lift the platen.
5. Cold peel
Wait until the carrier sheet is cool enough to touch comfortably — usually 30–45 seconds. Peel slowly, parallel to the garment surface. If you feel any vinyl lifting with the carrier, lay it back down and re-press for another 5 seconds, then cool peel again.
6. Optional final press
For maximum durability on garments that will see heavy wear, cover the design with parchment and re-press for 5 seconds. This re-melts the adhesive into the fabric without overheating the foil. Layering Foil HTV the Right Way
Foil HTV layers beautifully — as long as it's always the final layer applied. The two-layer construction means foil cannot have anything pressed on top of it without crushing the metallic finish.

Foil is always the top layer. If your design has a foil element and a PU element, press the PU first at its full settings, then press the foil on top at foil settings. Never the other way around.

Foil looks cloudy or dull after pressing
